What is haShabbat?

A calm companion for Jewish life: weekly candle-lighting and Shabbat times, a Hebrew calendar, yahrzeit (remembrance) reminders for your loved ones, a 3-minute weekly Torah portion, an “Ask the AI Rabbi” for everyday questions, and a finder for kosher places nearby.

How are candle-lighting and zmanim times calculated?

From your location and denomination using the same astronomical engine (hebcal) trusted across Jewish apps. Set your place accurately in Settings → Update location for the best results.

Why does the next yahrzeit date differ from the date I entered?

The date you enter is the Gregorian date of passing. The app converts it to the Hebrew calendar and shows the next upcoming anniversary, which often falls on a different Gregorian date each year — and can be more than a year away if this year’s date has already passed. The original date is always shown on the loved one’s detail screen.

Does the Kosher Finder mean a place is certified kosher?

No. It is a discovery tool built on public map data, which has no reliable kashrut field. Always confirm certification directly with the establishment or your local rabbinic authority (va’ad). We do not certify any place.

Is “Ask the AI Rabbi” a substitute for a real rabbi?

No. It is an AI learning companion — there is no human rabbi answering. It offers general guidance framed for the way you practice. For halachic rulings or personal matters, please consult a qualified rabbi.

Is there a limit to “Ask the AI Rabbi”?

For fair use, there is a cap of 100 questions per day, which resets at midnight UTC. It’s a safeguard against abuse and runaway costs — everyday use won’t come close.

How do I change my denomination?

Settings → Denomination. It re-tunes your times, the Parasha lens, and the tone of answers.

How do I manage reminders?

Settings → Reminders. Candle-lighting and yahrzeit reminders can be turned on or off independently.

How do I update my location?

Settings → Update location. We ask for location permission only at that moment.

How is my data handled?

We collect only what each feature needs, never sell your data, and use no advertising or analytics trackers. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. This permanently erases your profile, loved ones, saved places, conversations, and reminders. It cannot be undone.
